Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella passed away yesterday in London from a surgery-related hemorrhage, reports the Associated Press. He was 54.
Minghella's 1996 film, 'The English Patient', which starred Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche won 9 Academy Awards, including best director.
Other films directed by Minghella include the Civil War-era drama 'Cold Mountain' and 'The Talented Mr. Ripley', which starred Matt Damon and Jude Law.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said the director was 'an artist of the highest caliber.'
