Kristi Yamaguchi surprised no one last night when she won Season 6 of Dancing with the Stars.
Because ballroom dancing is basically figure skating minus the ice and the skates. And because, oh yeah, in case you hadn't heard her name mentioned in the Olympics every single year for the past twenty, Kristi Yamaguchi has won every kind of figure skating award invented.There should be affirmative action for this kind of thing, man. Just check out the knowing look on Kristi's face during the 'suspenseful' moment before the obvious winner was announced last night:

I dont know why it doesnt make rational sense, but maybe thats what I love about basketball. The free-wheeling nature of the game makes a space for the triumph of spirit over flesh, belief over reason, the victory of these strange, flawed Warriors over ANY team in the NBA.
