Linguistics student Richard Littauer, originally from Connecticut, has taught himself to speak the Na'vi language invented specially for the Oscar-winning sci-fi movie - he has even written a dictionary to help others learn the lingo.
The 21-year-old, whose alter ego is called Taronyu, has had his work complimented after attracting the attention of the language creator Dr Paul Frommer, and the two have been exchanging letters. Richard - who moved to Edinburgh in 2006 - says his ultimate aim is to set up a blue race tribe on Earth and meet a fellow Avatar fanatic to rub tails with.
