Heath Ledger's body was removed from his SoHo apartment by representatives of the medical examiner's office last night. The 28-year-old actor was discovered dead in his bed yesterday afternoon by a housekeeper. A bottle of pills was found near the actor, who was also suffering from pneumonia at the time if his death, reports TMZ. Reports are also coming in that the death was accidental and not a suicide. Heath's father, Kim, released a statement that said, in part:

"Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him. He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our families need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately." An autopsy will be conducted later today.

The New York Times reports that Heath was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in his bedroom by a housekeeper and a masseuse, who was scheduled to visit the actor this afternoon.
